Olympic Doughnuts was a mainstay outside Footscray Train Station, selling hot jam doughnuts to many generations of travellers. The business was established by Greek immigrant Nick Tsiligiris in 1979 and operated from a caravan on the Irving St forecourt for many decades. A station upgrade in 2012-14 saw the business eventually move to a permanent kiosk, following public outrage at the threat of permanent eviction. 2015 saw the release of the short film "Olympic Nick: a documentary", by filmmakers Ian Tran and Rachael Morssink, which celebrates Nick and his colourful life, and explores some of the relocation saga’s details. The short was awarded best film at Melbourne’s 23rd Greek Film Festival. Nick continued to operate from the kiosk until 2017, when he closed the business due to ill health. He passed away in 2021, aged 86.
