Summer in November

I'm doing a bunch of screenprinting today, to ward off Monday-itis and get some orders sorted out. The ink colours I'm using are very pastel and I just realised it's kind of summer here in Melbourne, though it feels like we got no spring. Oh well, at least that means endless salads, like the beetroot and cabbage slaw I had for lunch (and yes, I get to keep the reject plates - this one's got a hairline crack in it, what a shame!)

I'm thinking of using the paper I rest my squeegee on between prints (bottom photo) to wrap some orders - I usually throw that paper out but today the mess of ink and patterns looked pretty cool. Watch this space.

Shop update update

I'm posting shop updates each day this week. Mainly because there are so many new things and dealing with them all at once would do my head in! Here's a sample of what's gone up so far - lots of ceramics...

Happy Thursday.

New things

Just a quick post to share some new things I've been working on! The brand new tea towel, Fishes, is my first proper two-colour screen printed design and I'm so happy with it (and not just because I'm a Piscean). It's based on drawings I did earlier this year and certainly has a Scandi vibe and printed on 100% pure white European line. A limited number are now available in my shop and the Etsy shop.

Also new is an art print called Fish, which features more hand drawn...fish! It's printed onto the most lovely textured paper and fits A4/8x10" frames. It's in both this shop and Etsy too.

There will be shop updates each day this week, so keep an eye out for more new things. These one-off plates will be online tomorrow!

Oh, and in non-Spin Spin news, I've started *another* Instagram account, this time in my own name. So if you want to see what else I take photos of (mainly houses that are falling apart, sausage dogs, old buildings, old signage and plants) go forth and follow.

Making: Ceramic Mobiles

I had this idea yonks ago to make some mobiles, using hand painted porcelain pieces strung from wood with linen string. Like most ideas I have, it sat at the back of my brain and perpetually near the bottom of my ever growing to-do list. But the other week I finally had some time to play around with making the pieces, and it was super fun - I made some different shapes and used colours I don't usually use.

Then after the usual waiting, waiting, waiting for ceramics (for the clay to dry, then to sand it, paint it, then get it to a kiln and fire it and refire it!) the pieces were finally finished and ready to go last week, so I got to bring them to life. And I'm kind of in love and now I can't wait to make some more. The first batch are in the shop, I hope you like 'em too.
